Are you a seasoned director seeking a new creative platform?

Or an aspiring director eager to learn and grow with expert mentorship?

St. James Players is now accepting applications from experienced directors and enthusiastic amateurs for our Spring and Fall seasons of 2026, 2027, and 2028.

About Us

Founded in 1972, St. James Players (SJP) is a dedicated community theatre group with over 50 years of musical theatre tradition in Peterborough. What began in a church hall with borrowed costumes and makeshift sets has grown into a vibrant, ambitious organization presenting full-scale productions that delight audiences of all ages.

Our Seasons

  • Spring Production – Focused on youth and family theatre.

    A single-weekend show in late April at St. James United Church auditorium ‘Wesley Hall’.

    Recent shows: High School Musical Jr., Peter Pan, The Little Mermaid, Anne of Green Gables, The Little Mermaid and High School Musical Jr.

  • Fall Production – Our larger, full-scale musical with a predominantly adult cast.

    Performed over two weeks each November at Showplace Performance Centre.

    Recent shows: Mamma Mia, Beauty and the Beast, Shrek, All Shook Up, Anything Goes

We want fun, high-quality, family-friendly musicals that reflect the heart of community theatre. Our recent audience survey showed these top words describing an ideal show:

Experienced Directors

If you have a proven track record of directing musicals or theatrical productions, we’d love to see your vision! You’ll work with a passionate and talented team to bring your artistic direction to life on stage.

Amateur Directors & Mentorship

New to directing? We’ve got you covered! Our mentorship program pairs you with experienced theatre professionals to help you every step of the way—from vision to opening night. If you’ve got the passion, we’ll provide the support.

How to Apply

  • A few show titles you’re interested in directing

  • Whether you are applying as an experienced or amateur director

Our Board of Directors will review submissions and invite selected applicants to present their ideas.
